A group from Warners staying at Holme Lacy enjoyed a whirlwind tour of the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley on 30 March, 2017. Although the famous Forest daffodils made an early appearance this year, they have been particularly robust, so there was still enough to see. The short Forest tour went past the famous 17th century Speech House, now a fine hotel. Speech House is still the home of the Verderers, who were established in the early 13th century to guard the monarch’s flora and fauna. Across from Speech House are famous royal oak trees planted by Prince Albert in 1861 and H.M. The Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip during a visit in 1957. Also near the Speech House are trees planted by Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and Sophie his wife in 2014.
The visitors also travelled to one of England’s best viewpoints — Symonds Yat Rock. Fortunately, the weather was clear!
