A photo of a Belted Galloway at Parkend

First glimpses of Autumn

The main photo shows one of the Belted Galloway cattle (“The Beltie Boys”) recently returned to Parkend Community Orchard. Four cattle were brought in to help enhance the wildflower meadow. The cattle wear GPS collars to track their movements.

Visitors to the Forest saw the first signs of Autumn in the Forest Woodlands. There was a lot of evidence of freshly overturned turf left by feral boar searching for food in the soft Autumn soil.
Despite recent rain the walkers were able to keep their shoes reasonably clean and stay dry.
The woods are beginning to change colour from shades of green to shades or orange. Over the next couple of weeks the transformation will accelerate especially if the cold weather continues.
